Dr. Robert Wang

Dr. Robert Wang is an American artist, author, and esoteric scholar known for his influential work in tarot and Western mysticism. In 1978, under the guidance of occultist Israel Regardie, Wang created The Golden Dawn Tarot, a deck based on the symbolic teachings of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.

He is also the author of The Qabalistic Tarot: A Textbook of Mystical Philosophy, which explores tarot through the lens of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. In the 1990s, Wang developed the Jungian Tarot, blending tarot symbolism with Jungian psychological theory.

Israel Regardie

Israel Regardie (1907–1985) was a British-American occultist, ceremonial magician, and author known for preserving the teachings of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Born in London and raised in the U.S., he became deeply involved in esoteric traditions, including Theosophy, Kabbalah, and Eastern mysticism. In 1928, he worked as Aleister Crowley’s secretary, assisting in the editing and transcription of several key works.

Regardie authored several foundational texts on Western occultism, including A Garden of Pomegranates, The Tree of Life, and The Middle Pillar. His most influential work, The Golden Dawn, published between 1937 and 1940, compiled and preserved the order’s rituals and teachings, ensuring their survival. Later in life, he practiced as a chiropractor and explored the integration of Jungian and Reichian psychology with esoteric practice.
