Osamu Tezuka

Osamu Tezuka (手塚 治虫, 1928–1989) was a Japanese manga artist, cartoonist, and animator, regarded as the most influential figure in the history of manga and animation. His groundbreaking techniques and reimagining of genres earned him titles such as “the Father of Manga” and “the god of Manga.” He is considered the Japanese equivalent of Walt Disney.

Tezuka sparked Japan’s manga revolution with the release of New Treasure Island in 1947 and went on to create iconic series such as Astro Boy, Princess Knight, Kimba the White Lion, Black Jack, Phoenix, and Buddha. These works won numerous awards and shaped generations of artists.
