Karen Kuykendall

Karen Kuykendall (1928–1998) was an American artist best known for creating the Tarot of the Cat People. She studied advertising illustration at the Art Center in Los Angeles and motion picture costume design at the Chinouard Art Institute in California.

She painted everything from Native Americans and ancient Egyptians to 1960s and 1970s hippie-inspired art, as well as sculptures of people and animals in papier-mâché. Her 1,000+ pieces of artwork are now a part of the Mesa Historical Museum’s permanent collection.
