Avisomnia (avis somnia, lat.-bird's dreams) by Orla Bird is a tarot deck based on the Rider-Waite-Smith symbolism, interpreted through mystical imagery and botanical elements.

This deck is the result of Orla's two-year tarot journey, during which she studied tarot symbolics and imagined ways to depict the imagery of every card in her style.

The deck is accompanied by a booklet, which tells a story about tarot in general and offers short explanations for every card. The deck and the booklet are placed in a rigid cardboard box with Avisomnia imagery on the front.

Orla Bird

Orla Bird is an illustrator, cat mom, and plant hoarder based in Croatia. Her surrealist illustrations are mostly inspired by vivid dreams and visions. Almost everything she produces is hand-drawn or hand-painted, combined with collage. She is in search of symmetry and interconnections between seemingly unrelated imagery, alongside her fascination with nature. Orla creates her own mystical story by combining and blending motifs from different narratives.

Orla Bird is not her real name. She was called Orla for the first few months of her life before her parents decided to change it. In Croatian, it translates as “female eagle.” Later in life, her friends started calling her Bird (or Ptica) for unknown reasons, unrelated to her childhood name.

Orla studied architecture and worked as an architect for six years before embarking on this creative journey. Although changing one’s life path is scary, she feels this kind of work aligns better with who she is.

Very cool deck, very modern but with Rider-Waite iconography.

I collect my decks based off of the artwork and this is probably by far in my top five out of almost 60 decks! I am an intuitive reader at a shop in the city I live in and this will definitely be in my normal rotation of decks to use… not only is it gorgeous, but I feel very connected to it!!!
