As a Jungian coach with a wealth of experience working with different decks, I've learned to recognize tools that genuinely reach the unconscious - and Animae: The Source is one of them. I use these cards with clients specifically to explore the deeper, often hidden roots of their values, and the deck handles that work beautifully. Each image was hand-crafted as a collagraph print, and that textured, intuitive origin comes through in every card. There's an organic aliveness to the imagery that invites authentic projection rather than tidy interpretation. Because each card pairs a core value with abstract form rather than fixed meaning, clients find their own surprising entry points into self-inquiry. For practitioners working at the intersection of depth psychology and reflective practice, Animae is a genuinely sophisticated tool that I recommend without hesitation. The name Animae - soul, life force - turns out to be a promise the deck keeps. These cards feel alive in a way that is rare and immediately recognizable to anyone who works at depth.
Having worked with a tremendous number of decks over the years, I can say the physical quality here is outstanding. These cards feel wonderful in the hand. The beautiful satin finish complements the art perfectly, allowing the cards to slide smoothly without being slippery. The card stock feels substantial and supple - quality without stiffness. The image quality is excellent, with vibrant, rich colors that do full justice to the original printmaking. There's a cleanness and crispness to the printing that is visually refreshing and, frankly, not always a given at this price point. I'm also a sucker for a good box, and this one delivers. It's solid, well-constructed, beautifully finished, and makes the deck genuinely stand out on the shelf.
