Portrait de Paris Poker Deck
J. Trioullier published The Jeu de cartes au portrait de Paris between 1735 and 1751. Krisztina Kondor restored these cards based on the scanned images in the National Library of France.
The deck includes 55 cards, which include two jokers and a double-backer. This first edition is limited to 1000 decks. Each deck is individually numbered on the seal.
This is your chance to go back in time and use the most popular French playing cards of the 18th century. This historic deck will be an excellent addition to your collection.

These cards contain the suits which we recognize as clubs, hearts, spades, and diamonds. Unlike modern decks, the number cards lack the familiar index displaying their value.
A feature of the original deck is that each pip on the cards is unique because they are handmade. Instead of designing one pip and copying it across all the pips, Krisztin took care to illustrate each pip individually, maintaining its unique characteristics.
Around 1780, the Paris pattern gained prominence in France and acquired the name portrait officiel. Notably, these cards held the exclusive privilege of associating the face cards with historical and mythical characters.

The names of the figures are displayed on the sides of the court cards, making them easy to identify. Interestingly, the Jack of Clubs is an exception, bearing the names J. Trioullier and G. Paris. In contemporary decks with similar patterns, this card is often denoted as Lancelot.
During the 1700s, the inclusion of jokers and back designs was not commonplace. To make the deck fit contemporary norms, Krisztina created two jokers by combining the suits and the dog from the Jack of Spades. Additionally, she created a back design, drawing inspiration from the ornate patterns adorning the court cards.

An excellent deck! Perfect for divination and priced very reasonably. I’m considering buying a second one. Shuffles like butter too!
Excellent quality and a historical step into the past :) I like it
These are a perfect replica of the original deck. While the card backs aren't technically 'authentic' since the originals didn't have any, I actually prefer having them for modern use. The card quality is top-tier. Easy 5/5
Great look and feel! Something to keep and have fun with! Nice work!
Beautiful historic cards- great quality printing and paper!
My playing card size Noblet deck is exquisite. Perhaps this is blasphemous, but I may mix the pips with the minor arcana of a RWS deck that is exactly the same size - to explore & enrich my Marseille reading.
This was my very first Artisan Tarot purchase, and it did not disappoint. As much as I love using Tarot, I have been feeling that I need more playing card decks for Divination, and this one had drawn me immediately, especially as I have two good friends, both who use my Psychic Services, who have a love affair with Paris, France. I love how these cards feel, both physically, to the touch, as well as Psychically, and they are very visually pleasing, too. I cannot begin to tell you how much I was impressed with both the ease of ordering from the Artisan Tarot Website, as well as all the communications I received about when to expect my order. I AM definitely a very satisfied customer.
I bought them out of curiosity, I really like Tarots, I have quite a few in my collection, but I have been surprised with this deck and its restoration. They are very nice to the touch, with a suitable size and very easy to handle. I am very happy with this acquisition.
Lovely cards! Communication excellent and fast delivery to the UK.
Really excellent reproduction/renovation.
I can see how much care and attention went into making this deck. The court cards are delightful of course, but my favorite thing about this deck is actually the pips. Each pip is individually hand-drawn, which gives the deck a tremendous amount of character and charm.
This is an absolutely adorable playing card deck! I read the Tarot de Marseille and playing cards, and I don't use reversals, so I love having the familiar TdM court cards in a playing card (and poker size) deck! The suit pips are also traditionally patterned for playing cards but they're a little whimsical and fun. So glad that I added this deck to my collection!
ought Portrait of Paris poker / Ambiguites tarot / N Conver tarot. Arrived on time (though not delivered due to issues with my apt. door not unlocking during the day) but I eventually got them. All were in new condition and undamaged. The artwork on all three is exceptional and a staggering amount of work to design and draw. Personally, not into tarot for readings, but as I collect playing cards and have found an affinity for vintage restorations and reproductions, the artwork of the N. Conver and Ambiguities decks seemed a great compliment to the Portrait of Paris deck and I was not wrong. All three are simply stunning. Bravo Artisan Tarot!!
Beautiful displays, card backs, the tuck case, and the shuffle is a dream! Very pleased!
Artisan Tarot never fail to amaze! Another wonderful deck perfect in every way! I am always excited to see their creative flair and skills, and in this deck they have surpassed themselves. Thank you for your talents, and also excellent customer service. As always my package arrived securely wrapped and delivery was fast, with tracking and reliable. THANK YOU!
Beautiful quality deck. Promptly delivered. Very impressed and I’d order again.
I love these decks. Very good. High quality and worth every penny.
Excellent deck at a reasonable price. Handles well, and shuffles easily. Visual appeal, and excellent restoration. Notified by seller about every step, from ordering to delivery. Good job, folks.
First let me say that I have been waiting a long time for a quality historical deck of playing card to be made available for purchase. Sure, I have owned a few other historical decks over the years, but as I use my cards predominately for readings their durability generally suffered due to having squared corners and hence they would begin to shuffle poorly after constant use. This is not the case with these playing cards from the creative team at Artisan Tarot, who have produced a very usable deck that shuffles smoothly like silk, and is made from a durable card stock that possess a creamy tone. The artistic dedication to both preserving and transcribing the essence of the original designs is a wonderful experience to behold in one’s hands. This deck of course would make a great addition to anyone's collection, but for me, it is a very useable deck, suitable for both gaming and Cartomancy. I’m pleased that this interpretation of the ‘Portrait De Paris’ deck makes some accomodations for modernity with its rounded corners, and with the two additional Joker cards. I look forward to the possibility that Krisztin and William will once again venture to release a further historical deck, possibly something like the Auvergne pattern, (c.1700-1750) would make a great candidate for a future release.
I knew what to expect, given that i have the artisan Nicolas Conver and Jean Noblet decks. the standards of design and production are distinctly high and the cards are a pleasure and a joy. I also appreciated the very good communication regarding shipping.
Love the deck. Thank you
I collect playing cards and when I saw Artisan Tarot had created this deck, I knew I had to have it. The Portrait de Paris Poker deck is now my favorite playing card deck. I love the cardstock selected and I love the look of the numberless pip and court cards. Very cool deck that is different from your traditional style playing cards. Very satisfied.
