A Simple Method for Reading Pip Cards

A Simple Method for Reading Pip Cards

Yesterday, during a one-on-one lesson with a client, we discussed how many readers find it difficult to interpret the pip cards from the Tarot de Marseille.

I shared a method that has worked well for me—comparing and contrasting the imagery in a spread. Let me show you an example:

Below, you’ll see the Four of Batons and the Two of Batons from our Jacob Jerger Tarot deck.

When we examine these cards side by side, here’s what we notice:

  1. The number of batons decreases from four to two.

  2. The foliage and flowers in the Four of Batons grow and become vibrant in the Two of Batons.

The lesson from these cards might be to clear away distractions so that your true priorities can thrive.

This simple method of comparing and contrasting the imagery in the cards can help you uncover a story that offers meaningful guidance.

If you want to learn more about reading pip cards, I highly recommend Italo Calvino’s The Castle of Crossed Destinies.

You can also book a private lesson with me. I’d love to chat with you about tarot.
